Internationally Educated Pharmacy Technician Registration

Any individual who wishes to practice as a pharmacy technician in Newfoundland and Labrador must register with the College of Pharmacy of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPNL). Individuals who obtained their pharmacy technician education outside of Canada must meet the requirements set out in one of the two pathways outlined below.

Standard Pathway

Individuals who have obtained their pharmacy technician education from outside of Canada and are not registered in another Canadian jurisdiction or one of the CPNL-approved jurisdictions under the expedited pathway must complete the following requirements to be eligible for registration as a pharmacy technician with CPNL:

Must be registered with the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC), and have successfully completed the pharmacy technician international evaluation.
Must have successfully completed English language proficiency testing.
Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician Intern and have completed the practical training requirements.
Must have successfully completed the CPNL Registration Exam.
Must have successfully completed both Parts I and II of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Examination for Pharmacy Technicians.

Photo identification
Certificate of conduct
Proof of professional liability insurance
Proof of successful completion of Parts I and II of the PEBC Qualifying Examination for Pharmacy Technicians
Application

If you have determined you are eligible to register as a pharmacy technician and have obtained all the required documentation, you may apply through CPNL’s online application portal by following the steps below.

Click Application Portal in the Portal Login menu at the top right of the webpage.
Create an account by clicking the “Register for an Account” link and following the instructions.
Click the Start New Application button

Click Select this Application button under the Pharmacy Technician Registration Application – Internationally Educated Pharmacy Technician.
Follow the instructions to submit the application and pay the application fee.

Expedited Pathway

CPNL waives select initial registration requirements for applicants who are currently registered and practicing as a pharmacy technician in any of the following CPNL-approved jurisdictions:

Great Britain
before applying
Contact CPNL at registration@cpnl.ca to confirm eligibility.
Must have Letters of Standing sent directly to CPNL from all pharmacy regulatory authorities with which the applicant is currently, or was formerly, registered.
Must have successfully completed the CPNL Registration Exam.

Application

If you have determined you are eligible to register as a pharmacy technician and have obtained all the required documentation, you may apply through CPNL’s online application portal by following the steps below.

Create an account by clicking the “Register for an Account” link and following the instructions.
Click the Start New Application button

Click Select this Application button under the Pharmacy Technician Registration Application – Pharmacy Technician from Another Canadian Jurisdiction or Expedited International Applicant.
Follow the instructions to submit the application and pay the application fee.

Completed applications are reviewed in the order they are submitted and may take 5-7 business days to process once all required documentation and fees are received. Applicants will be notified by email once a decision has been made. If approved, the applicant must pay the annual registration fee by logging into the Applications Portal and clicking the Pay Registration Fees button next to the appropriate application. Once the annual registration fee is paid, the pharmacy technician will be added to the Public Register and registration will be effective until December 31st of the registration year. The registration certificate can be downloaded from the Registrant Portal.
