New Pharmacy Ownership Requirements and Forms Now Available Online
As previously communicated in the Summer 2026 issue of The Apothecary, new pharmacy ownership information requirements are in place, which require the submission of additional ownership information as well as the appointment of a designated representative to represent the pharmacy owners in dealings with CPNL.
Full details, including documentation requirements and forms, are now available on CPNL’s website at cpnl.ca/pharmacy-licensing/initial-licensure/pharmacy-ownership/. Please note the documentation requirements vary depending on the pharmacy ownership structure (e.g., corporation, partnership, sole proprietor).
Beginning on September 1, 2026, owners of existing pharmacies must provide completed forms and supporting documents to the pharmacist-in-charge, who must email them to licensing@cpnl.ca by no later than the end of the day on October 9, 2026.
Going forward, this information must be provided with any application to open a new pharmacy or change the pharmacy ownership.

Data Sharing Agreement Requirements for Medication Incident Reporting
Pharmacists-in-charge (PIC) are reminded that a valid and current data sharing agreement (DSA) must be in place with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Canada in order to submit medication incidents to the National Incident Data Repository (NIDR). This requirement ensures compliance with the MedSTEP NL program and the Standards of Practice for Continuous Quality Improvement and Medication Incident Reporting in Community Pharmacies.

Updating Your Two-Factor Authentication in CPNL’s Online Portals
Getting locked out of your CPNL Registrant Portal or Pharmacy Portal account because you can’t remember the answers to your security questions? The software provider has now provided a new two-factor authentication (2FA) security method to access your account. The new 2FA method sends a security code to your email address instead of requiring you to answer security questions.
If you would like to convert your security questions to a security code, click the “Reset Password” link on the login page, enter your email address, and click the link in the email you receive. You will be given the choice to reset your security questions to switch to a security code, as pictured below.
Should you forget your password or security questions, please click the “Reset Password” link before repeated attempts to avoid being locked out of your account.

Service Highlight Webinar: NLHS Addictions Services Program
Join the NL Centre on Substance Use (NLCSU) for a Service Highlight webinar on Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services’ Addiction Services Program (ADS), a clinical outpatient counselling program supporting individuals in the Urban Avalon region seeking to address their relationship with substances. Guided by the Stepped Care Model, Recovery Model, Stages of Change, and Harm Reduction Model, ADS counsellors use Trauma-Informed principles, Anti-Oppressive frameworks, and a Holistic Recovery lens to provide flexible, client-led care. This presentation will provide an overview of the scope of ADS programming, including individual counselling, specialized group offerings (such as Aftercare, Gambling Support, and Structured Relapse Prevention), and upcoming Fall 2026 initiatives. Participants will learn about eligibility criteria, referral pathways, and diverse connections with community organizations and NLHS services. It will also demonstrate how ADS collaborates with clients across various stages of change to improve quality of life, increase self-autonomy, and reduce harm along the continuum of substance use and recovery.

Project ECHO NL: Substance Use Cycle 5 – Upcoming Sessions
The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre on Substance Use (NLCSU) Project ECHO NL: Substance Use is a virtual, case-based learning community focused on advancing care and treatment for people who use substances. Sessions are open to a wide range of participants, including peer support workers, social workers, addictions counsellors, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physicians, other health professionals, and students.
While Project ECHO NL: Substance Use is based in Newfoundland and Labrador, participation is open to providers and learners from across Canada and internationally.
Individuals are welcome to register for one or multiple sessions.

CPNL staff are here to assist and support you. If you wish to meet with a staff member in person, please call to schedule an appointment before visiting our office. Having details regarding your inquiry will help us appropriately prioritize and prepare to answer your question if we need to collect additional information before calling you back or meeting with you. If you are unable to reach the staff person by phone, please leave a detailed message. Voicemails are regularly checked, and staff members get email alerts when a message is left on their phone line.
Keeping Contact Information Up to Date
Registered pharmacy professionals are responsible for ensuring that the contact information on their registrant profile, including email address and practice site, is accurate at all times. CPNL primarily uses email communication to send newsletters, renewal reminders, practice site assessment information, professional development audit information, calls for interest for committees, and other alerts. If the email address on file is incorrect, important information may be missed and/or disclosed to the wrong person. If your contact information changes, please update your information on file by logging into the Registrant Portal.
