Call for Expression of Interest – Pharmacy Practice Advisory Committee
CPNL is currently seeking a pharmacy technician who works primarily in a community pharmacy to join the Pharmacy Practice Advisory Committee.
The Pharmacy Practice Advisory Committee is a standing committee of CPNL whose role is to assist the board in meeting its goals of protecting the public and ensuring quality and ethical care by advising on current or new standards related to pharmacy professionals’ scope of practice. In fulfilling its role, the committee may:
As per its terms of reference, the Pharmacy Practice Advisory Committee is composed of a practicing community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, community pharmacy technician, and hospital pharmacy technician, as well as representatives of the NL Branch of the Canadian Society of Healthcare Systems Pharmacy, the Pharmacists Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Memorial University School of Pharmacy, the Department of Health and Community Services, and a CPNL board member and staff member.

Updates to the Professional Development Requirements Interpretation Guide
The CPNL Board of Directors approved revisions to the Professional Development Requirements Interpretation Guide at the recent board meeting in February. Updates include:

Revisions to the Standards of Pharmacy Operation – Hospital Pharmacy
The CPNL Board of Directors approved revisions to the Standards of Pharmacy Operation – Hospital Pharmacy at the recent board meeting in February. Hospital pharmacies are expected to meet the updated standards at the earliest opportunity and no later than January 1, 2027.
Pharmacists-in-charge, pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians are encouraged to review the updated standards, which are now available on the CPNL website at cpnl.ca/professional-practice/practice-framework/standards/.

NAPRA Consultations: Compounding Standards and Competence
The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) is conducting two public consultations related to sterile and non-sterile compounding.

- Consultation on Model Documents for PRA Use – Non-sterile and Sterile Compounding Standards
- In 2024, NAPRA began a review and update of its suite of model documents on standards of practice for pharmacy compounding and is now seeking additional external input on draft documents.
- The goal of the project is to update the documents to better align with the outcome-based approach taken for other NAPRA model documents, update the content based on current evidence-informed references, address any issues/concerns with the current documents, and ensure the documents reflect current and anticipated future pharmacy practice.
- Consultation on Components for PRA Approach to Compounding Competence
- In December 2025, NAPRA communicated the PRA agreed-upon approach to compounding competence to key interested parties and is now consulting on various components that are required to support PARs in implementing the agreed-upon approach to compounding competence, including:
- guidance for education accreditors
- a national list of qualifications/criteria for assessors
- timelines required for the various steps in the process

CNA Now Offering Free Healthcare Professional Preceptor Training Course
College of the North Atlantic is offering a free Healthcare Professional Preceptor Training course for their partners who precept their Health Science students.
COURSE WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING TOPICS
The course runs once per semester (registration for Winter 2026 is now closed) and is open to those that are preceptors or are considering preceptoring a student from College of the North Atlantic. The course will be open for 8 weeks at which time participants will have ample time to complete the readings and discussion posts.
Along with the email confirmation of acceptance to the course, participants can download their Certificate of Completion for five (5) Professional Learning hours to submit to their professional registration/licensure body.
NAPRA Position: Pharmacy Student for Spring/Summer 2026
The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) is presently recruiting a Pharmacy Student for a 16-week term between April and September 2026 (flexible based on educational requirements).

If you are unable to reach the staff person by phone, please leave a detailed message. Voicemails are regularly checked, and staff members get email alerts when a message is left on their phone line.
Keeping Contact Information Up to Date
Registered pharmacy professionals are responsible for ensuring that the contact information on their registrant profile, including email address and practice site, is accurate at all times. CPNL primarily uses email communication to send newsletters, renewal reminders, practice site assessment information, professional development audit information, calls for interest for committees, and other alerts. If the email address on file is incorrect, important information may be missed and/or disclosed to the wrong person. If your contact information changes, please update your information on file by logging into the Registrant Portal.
