Over the past several years, the College of Pharmacy of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPNL) has been working with the Department of Health and Community Services on the development of regulations and standards of practice enabling pharmacists to utilize their full scope of practice in relation to ordering laboratory tests. Please refer to the Background section below for more details regarding this work.
At this time, we are inviting pharmacy professionals and other interested parties to provide feedback on the new proposed Standards of Practice.
This consultation is being conducted using a secure online survey. Individual survey responses are anonymous and confidential.
All participants are advised to review the proposed Standards before participating in the survey and make notes as necessary to refer to while completing the survey.

The proposed Standards of Practice was developed to align with regulations that have been jointly developed and approved by the CPNL Board of Directors and the Minister of Health and Community Services. During the drafting process, feedback was provided by NL Health Services Laboratory Services and CPNL’s Pharmacy Practice Advisory Committee, which is comprised of a combination of pharmacy professionals in a variety of practice roles, as well as other key partners (see Committees page of CPNL website for a full list of the committee members and who they represent on the committee).
The feedback received during this consultation will inform and support the final draft of the Standards that will be submitted to the CPNL Board of Directors for approval in mid-fall 2025.
